Brigitte Bardot: More Than Just a Pretty Face

Of all the blonde bombshells in France, there is only one that is as tightly linked to their cultural heritage as the beloved croissant: Brigitte Bardot. Her liberated sexuality and subversive outspokenness outraged conservative Catholics and set the stage for the sexual liberation movement of the 1960s. She fearlessly flouted social conventions, refusing to settle for traditional female roles as a mother and housewife and rejected her bourgeois upbringing.

Trend Alert! Bitter Ex-Boyfriends Suing Pop Stars

Breakups are a bitch. There’s nothing worse than loving someone, and then losing them. However, I think Leona Lewis and Lady Gaga would argue that there is something worse than breaking up with someone: being a pop star and having your ex-boyfriend sue your ass for millions of dollars claiming he’s the reason you’re famous.

Sarah Palin & Feminism: Will this Never End?

It’s the debate that looks like it’s never going to die. When Sarah Palin first stepped into the spotlight many were thrilled that a woman was in the running for Vice President. The excitement lasted for, oh, a couple of days until everyone remembered which party she’s a member of and that all the ‘Yay, a woman doing well in politics!’ cries in the world weren’t going to drown out the anti-woman policies of the Republican Party.

France’s World Cup Drama Queens Unmasked

I was on vacation in Corsica last week while the media uproar and indignation heated up over France’s disappointing, culturally offensive and lackluster football team. In a dingy bar in a small village called Cargèse on the island, my husband and I watched with jaws-dropped as France’s overpaid and over-mediatized superstars were taught what it meant to play as a real team by their Mexican opponents. Ironically, we were watching in embarrassment next to a very elated group of Mexicans, quite ...
