Last night was most certainly a night for awards, with Speech Debelle winning the Mercury Music Prize, a blogger winning a Ubisurfer netbook at the London Bloggers Meetup, and Lily Allen winning the GQ award for Woman of the Year.
The GQ Men of the Year Awards always come across as being a night out, for men to congratulate each other one being masters of the universe. And really, that’s exactly what it is. But how nice of them to throw in a “Woman of the Year”.
The Daily Mail have reported on Lily winning this award, but why make that a big deal with her drunk BFF, Kate Moss, was interrupting interviews to look for her lost lipstick, striking ridiculous poses, and looking like a hot mess.
“Clearly having sat though 20 winners collecting their awards and making their acceptance speeches had proved rather tiresome for the mother-of-one, who had earlier admitted 'being terrible at these things' before presenting Lily with her award on stage.
“The Croydon model was then bundled into a taxi, propped up by boyfriend Jamie Hince, unable to hide her spotty skin, which was showing the strain of what had been a long day for the party animal.”
Apparently Lily was “embarrassed” for her drunk friend, which is a stark contrast to last year's coverage, where apparently Lily got drunk on stage and had a bitch fight with Elton John.
The “Men of the Year” are generally people that I’ve never heard of, but then again I’m not exactly a 30-something British man or a reader of GQ.
