Katy Perry, Blasphemy, and Lady Gaga's Mob

By Cate Sevilla

Katy Perry is someone I’m not sure I understand. Engaged to Russell Brand, one of the most scandalous men in British pop culture, Katy Perry’s first big hit was about kissing girls. And liking it. She has had other hits about dubachery in Vegas, and about guys being “so gay” without actually liking boys. She’s a conundrum, that one.

And now, it would seem, rather hypocritical.

In response to Lady Gaga’s "Alejandro" video, Perry Tweeted that, “Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke.”

Yes, this is coming from a lady who, in her latest video, dons a cupcake bra and sings innocently into the camera butt-naked on a cotton candy cloud making sex-faces.

Perry cleared up the matter on a French radio show, and said that while she’s a massive Lady Gaga fan, there are some things she will not do or say, and that even her boyfriend says things that make her cringe sometimes.

Watching Katy Perry explain herself and admitting that she’s a “very hypocritical person” made me warm up to her a bit, however, I still find it hard to take her “blasphemy” and “cheap jokes” comments seriously when she’s shooting whipped cream out of her tits in the "California Gurls" video.

But, feminist, religious and catty analysis aside, this video from BarelyPolitical.com is actually pretty funny. Not because I hate Katy Perry, and not because I think Gaga is actually a mobster, but just because it’s hilarious.
