Did you think the time for black eye-make up, velvet skirts and lace up boots was over? Think again. There still seems to be bits of goth culture thriving in the most random places.
Just this week the Spanish prime minister was apparently embarrased to have his photo taken with his gothed up teenage daughters.
Just look at them! Isn't that the cutest thing you've ever seen? There's a beaming Barack and Michelle Obama with two friendly looking heavy metal chics. Oh wait, they're the daughters of that Spanish PM with the ridiculously long name.
Strangely enough the PM's press office didn't want this picture to appear in the media. The official explanation is that Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero was trying to protect his underage daughters from the media attention. But perhaps he just wanted to prevent himself from jokey references to the Addam's Family.
Another secret goth in office is Ukraine's PM Yulia Tymoshenko. She's got the whole Elisabeth Bathory/scary doll look down to a T, with her stylish old fashioned black dresses and trademark braids. At least Putin seems to approve.
Maybe there's going to be a goth revival after this? I think there should be. The financial climate just simply calls for some dark dresses, black lipstick and grim lyrics. And why shouldn't the politicians be the trendsetters here? Maybe they'd be better at fashion than all the other stuff they're supposed to be doing. Admit it, you too would like to see David Miliband all gothed up on the cover of Vogue.
