Always's "Sense & Sensitivity" Campaign

By Laura Silver

We women of BitchBuzz like to think we are beyond taboos, but whenever I see an advert for incontinence pads like Tena Lady, or Always Envive, I wince a little and think, ‘Oh God, shoot me when I am 70 and start pissing myself’.

The problem is tough, with childbirth being one of the main causes of Light Adult Incontinence (LAI), it is not just old people who are affected by this embarrassing condition.

But with 4 in 10 women claiming the only thing more embarrassing to talk about would be STIs, the condition which affects a surprising 30% of women over thirty, will remain a taboo and leave many women needlessly suffering is silence.

To help combat the embarrassment, and raise awareness of this common condition, Always Envive have teamed up with Wellbeing of Women to launch the Sense and Sensitivity campaign. Fronted by Ulrika Jonsson, who suffered from LAI after the birth of her fourth child, the campaign aims to break down through the taboo and show women that not only is help available, but that the right pelvic floor exercises, and reducing stress levels, can seriously improve the condition.

Most of all, the campaign aims to stamp out the opinion that it is not just decrepit old ladies who ‘piss themselves’, but that normal women, with Louboutins, laptops and Latte habits, can also suffer from LAI, and shouldn’t have to be so damn ashamed of it!

A male friend wrote a note on Facebook featuring his opinions on Tena lady adverts, the gist of which was ''Ehttp://www women piss themselves, that's gross, I don't want to know that, stop making it acceptable with your adverts Tena'' oh the hilarity! (mucho sarcasm there) I'm not averse to mocking those adverts but his attitude really annoyed me (and the 'lols like totally' comments) as it pretty much reinforces the reason for having them in the first place.

Anyway, after waffling on about that little annoyance, I'm all for raising awareness if it helps people deal with the problem.

Incontinence is actually much more common than people are aware of. 1 in 4 women are effected by it and from all ages. It is still a taboo subject but it shouldn't be!

On http://tena.netdoctor.co.uk/ they are giving away free TENA Lady samples & money off vouchers.

It's definitely worth having a look at and not just laughing about the matter.
