The founders of Cuil respond to the backlash, guess which kick-ass lesbian couple is getting married this weekend, Olympians who are *not* jail bait and The Guardian's odd photo choice to help promote a trip to Tokyo...
*Check out this fantastic interview on Yahoo!'s Tech Ticker with Sarah Lacy and the founders of Cuil who shed some light on their "horrible" launch: "We didn't put 'Beta' on it because I don't know what 'Beta' means...I don't know why it means 'Oh! Don't blame us if it doesn't work!' No, no. If you put something out there it should work." Respect.
*The fabulous Ellen DeGeneres and Portia di Rossi are rumoured to be getting married this weekend! Ellen says,
"It's something that we've wanted to do and we want it to be legal and we are very, very excited. I think someday people will look back on this like women not having the
right to vote and segregation and anything else that seems ridiculous
that we don't all have the same rights."
*Online *nerds* who perv on American gymnast Alicia Sacramone say they support "their girl" despite her less than stellar performance because, you know, like she's hot...and stuff. When accused of being, well, pervs, her *fans* shoot back: "SHE'S 20, so she's not jailbait!" Yeah, that's right grandpa.
*Currently, if you go to The Guardian's Life & Style section, along the right hand side you'll see that they're promoting a competition to win a trip to Tokyo with an image of a woman standing on a "women only" train platform.
What's that about? "Come to Tokyo! It's safe! No really! Don't worry about that whole sexual harassment thing on trains - we've got it covered." Kind of an odd thing to use to promote a stellar trip to a fantastic city.
(Also, I just noticed: what's with the Japanese Schoolgirl!? Geez.)
